Weymouth and Portland Housing has an ambitious development strategy that aims to maximise opportunities to provide quality, affordable, homes to meet a wide range of local needs. We view development as not just an exercise in house building but as a means of providing attractive, energy-efficient homes that will enhance the community and contribute towards its' sustainability.
Since transfer in 2000, WPH has delivered 163 new affordable homes. The Company currently has a planned programme for 2007-2008 aimed at delivering an additional 124 new homes for the benefit of the community. By assembling new sites and redevelopment opportunities the Company has attracted £5.43m of Social Housing Grant from the Housing Corporation and £1.06m Local Authority Grant. This level of grant funding added to the Company's own development financing, will enable new homes to be built in Weymouth & Portland and the adjacent West Dorset district area. In partnership with West Dorset District Council, the Company has established a successful leasing scheme that has provided 9 affordable homes on a temporary basis to meet local housing needs.
